The last Sunday that I went to Deaf Church, "Jello' signed a solo. ("Jello" is my parapelegic deaf friend, who has just gotten her license for manual driving.) She'll never walk again so she has been told by the "medical establishment,..but she can surely sing..in sign language! The grace and fluidity in which one sign flowed into another and the "beatific" expression on her face was certainly a sight to see! Her face glows when one talks to her, she always has something good to say about the person that she is exchanging comments,

"The church lady,"..who is our local "gossip"...(deaf idiom is cute for this sign..."lift both left hand and right hand to chest level,..make the "G" hand with three fingers tucked down into one's palm, straighten first finger and thumbs on both hands,.and then touch the tips of the first finger and the thumbs together repetitively. Both hands with the fingers flying look like to ducks quacking at each other!!)...told me that one of the younger women in the church was talking about how she felt that a man as nice as "Jello's" husband was being wasted on a woman as disabled as "Jello!"

I wonder how "Jello" feels about this?

I can't describe how happy "Jello" looked as she sang of how her feelings of how God had blessed her and how she felt that life was so worth living!! This from a woman, who can't walk,..has been deaf from early childhood,..has just had a devastating stroke,..and has suffered from migraine headaches all her life!! Since her stroke,.."Jello" has lost her job,..been mocked by her one hearing daughter for continuing to go to deaf church and for holding up her faith in God! I'm going to church,..I think,..just to see how this brave woman copes with a reality that I would find it impossible to deal with!

I am sorry that I did not make it to Deaf Church this Sunday, but I had a hard time breathing last night. It is getting harder and harder to push the air in and out of my lungs...so back to the doctor's office again tomorrow!
