Today, I am writing more than usual in this blog. I guess I am really excited and happy because after almost ten years or more, I finally went back to Canton Deaf Church. It took me a while and neither my son or my husband encouraged me to go but I made up my mind to go and did so!! Almost everyone that I knew and liked was still there! I was welcomed with open arms!!

What a relief to know what everyone is saying and to know that I don't have to "listen" with my ears to know what is being said!! All I had to do was watch watch those flying expressive hands and fingers and faces to know what other folks had to say!! All I had to do was just watch!! Signing is such unbelievably easy communication compared to the alternatives and complications of spoken language!!

The minister had some funny ideas! He jumped up and down and talked about some folks being possesed by demons! He seemed to be the only person in the crowd of about twenty or thirty people..who seemed to be possesed by a "demon" as he spend quite a bit of his time thumping the pulpit with his fist and jumping up and down as he preached with the huge hand signs that are the deaf equivalent of shouting!

The second sermon by "Jello," a friend of mine, who has a spinal cord injury along with her deafness, was given by my friend as she sat in her wheelchair. Somehow,..I got more from her sermon about faith in God and patient endurance of life's trials than I got from the "skippy-hoppy" minister to the deaf.

Whew! There is a lot of catching up to do! I had to go home in time to get Bill off to work by one o'clock so I didn't have time to visit after church!!
