I suppose that I should be getting back to my housework and trying to take care of emptying the trash and scrubbing the floor and doing all of the things that good big fat mamas do when they are trying to be good house wives and mothers,..but I cannot seem to be able to do that!! I am much too excited after giving a book talk,..this afternoon!
I just spoke to two hundred kids, ages eleven and twelve years old,..at St. James and St. Philip's School in Canal Fulton,..Ohio. They were so thrilled with the Nellie story, that even after they heard BuzzyBee and myself talking about the book,..they still asked us questions for an hour after the program!! I ran through the manual alphabet so many times that my knuckles are starting to crack from it!!
Then,..one of the children asked if the deaf could sing songs in sign language and I signed a song for the students!! So another child asked if I could sign the song and sing the song with my voice at the same time!! After less than one verse of me singing the song, the sight of over a hundred children, covering their ears and sticking their fingers in their ears..was enough to make even me stop singing with my voice. Even I could hear the dog, that a little girl had bought to school for show and tell in the next class room,...poor poochie was howling!!
A little girl asked me, "Why do you have such a beautiful speaking voice and such a perfectly horrible singing voice?" All I could answer her was, "I dunno!"
And I really don't know why I can speak well but my singing sounds so bad that after hearing me sing,..I can say,..."I never met a dog, who did not howl!!"
